The Texas wildfires, the worst in 11 years, burned 500 square miles in Texas and claimed the lives of 5 people.  After the devastation of the fires the Texas Cattle Feeder’s Association said more than 5,000 cattle were in immediate need of hay and feed supplies and hay deliveries to the Panhandle have arrived in large numbers. In a week’s time, the support of fellow ranchers has already helped meet the immediate need for feed.

Danny Nusser, Regional Program Leader-Ag &NR, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service said in a statement:

“We want to thank everyone for the overwhelming support of hay and feed in the last 5 days. We are now to a point at all of the supply point to focus our effort towards deliver to producers in the country. We feel like we will have ample supply of feed and hay to meet the ranchers needs for 2-3 weeks. If you are loaded or planning to come this weekend we welcome you. If you are still in the planning stages we would like your contact information just in case. The greatest needs going forward are monetary donations to the accounts supporting ranchers needs in the future. Thanks again for all of the overwhelming support of our producers in the Texas Panhandle.”

But, feeding the animals is only one of the needs of the panhandle fire victims.  Fencing materials, and miles of it, are still needed and monetary donations can be used to help fill that demand. The Texas Farm Bureau has organized a fund for tax deductible contributions.  The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service also has a flyer you can download HERE with contact info for in-kind as well as monetary donations.
